There is evidence to suggest that the Yorkshire Dales has been the home to people for 12,000 years

Archaeology
The aim of archaelogical investigations is to learn about human cultures through the recovery, documentation and analysis of material remains and environmental data.  There is evidence to suggest that the Yorkshire Dales has been the home to people since the palaeolithic age, some 12,000 years ago.  Other residents through history have included the Romans, Angles, Danes, Norsemen and Normans.  In the medieval period, the monasteries owned great swathes of land.  The story of the Dales continued through the Tudor, Stuart, Georgian and Victorian periods.  As such, there is a great deal for archaeologists to investigate and discover.  For more information, visit the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority's website,
'Out of Oblivion'.

Friends of Thornborough (Thornborough Henge)

“The Friends of Thornborough Henges” is a voluntary campaign group dedicated to preventing further damage to the landscape setting of North Yorkshires's Thornborough Henges Complex, relics of the largest ancient ceremonial area in Britain. Only three of the original eight massive earth henges survived into modern times and they are now protected as Scheduled Ancient Monuments.
