All areas of Yorkshire Dales heritage
A number of organisations within the Yorkshire Dales are interested in and concerned with the protection of all areas of Dales' heritage. These include:
- statutory bodies, such as the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and North Yorkshire County Council. These bodies have an important official role to play in looking after the Dales. They initiate schemes and procedures, often working with higher levels of government, that will have a direct effect on every aspect of the future of the Yorkshire Dales.
- local commercial companies that operate within the area, such as Daelnet and Eagle Intermedia Publishing. By taking an active interest in Dales heritage, companies like these help to maintain communities and to ensure that the Dales remains an economically and socially viable place to live and work. At the same time they safeguard their success as a business.
- voluntary and non-statutory organisations such as the Yorkshire Dales Millenium Trust and the Yorkshire Dales Society that seek to conserve, protect and maintaining the heritage of the Dales through activities including fund-raising, lobbying and education.
The image shows an example of perhaps the most well known symbol of the Yorkshire Dales, a Swaledale sheep, on the windswept fells.
